Frequently Asked Questions
Electricity monitors
How easy is it to install an efergy monitor?
The e2 couldn’t really be much simpler to install. Simply put the clamp onto the live mains cable in your fuse-box and put the display on your coffee table! Then program the display for your own requirements and that’s it!
How much money can I save with an efergy monitor?
The savings vary from user to user but they can be considerable, we reckon up to 20%, if you use an efergy monitor and change the way you use the electrical appliances around your home. We have put a guide together to show you how small changes can make a big difference!
Is the sensor supposed to be loose around the cable?
The sensor should fit loosely around your cable. Please do not pack it with anything to make it fit tighter. This could cause inaccurate readings and potentially be a safety hazard. If the sensor is too small for the cable you may need to purchase an XL sensor from our e-shop.
What kind of information is displayed on the monitor?
All our monitors show power information (kW), cost information (£), and carbon emissions (CO2). The information is displayed in three different modes: instant, history and average. Press the top Function Button to change the information displayed from one mode to another.
Does the energy monitor need batteries?
Both the transmitter and the receivers work with 1.5v alkaline batteries and in addition the monitors can be powered by 6v DC adaptor to save on the use of batteries.
Are the monitors three phase compatible?
What type of wireless communications do the monitors use?
Our transmitters use 433 MHZ to communicate with the display.
Which is the transmission rate?
Our transmitters send energy information data every 10s/15s/20s.
How far does the device transmit?
Transmitters work up to around 328 Feet within the home. But this will depend upon the environment in which it is working. If the building that the monitor is operating in contains ironwork in the walls, thick concrete walls or floors and other wireless technology such as weather stations and wireless thermostats, then this can greatly reduce transmission ranges and possible cause the monitor to drop its link.
How much energy do efergy monitors consume?
Really low, less than 0.001 kWh.
With how much sensitivity is instant power displayed on the monitor?
All our monitors can display electricity consumption with a sensitivity of 1W.
How accurate are efergy energy monitors?
Independent testing carried out by Intertek ETL Labs found that in a typical utility environment efergy energy monitors were 97 -99% accurate when compared to a revenue grade meter.
How do our monitors work out what I am spending on electricity?
The simples way to do this is to take your "Total electric bill amount" and divide by the "Total kWh consumed". This will give you a value of for example, $0.09 (equals 9 centsper kWh). This will give you a cost per kWh including ALL charges, which is what you see on your total electric bill. For setting Time-of-Use periods refer to the Manual.
How long will the monitors record data for?
Our monitors can record data for the last 7 days, 7 weeks and 24 months (12 months for the elite monitor). They can also store hourly information for the last 240 days.
Will I lose the information in the event of a power cut or when I remove the batteries?
All information is stored in an internal memory which saves and holds the data even in case of power cut, or when you remove the batteries. In the event of a power cut the clock and the date will remain the same than when the power was removed. You will only loose the information stored in the memory when you reset the device.
If I remove the batteries will I lose the information on the display?
If you need to change or remove the batteries, the display has an internal memory, so information stored on the display will not be lost.
How long should the batteries last?
Battery life depends upon the quality and condition of batteries used, time spent interrogating the collected data and the intervals between transmissions. In ideal conditions up to 18 months of battery life can be expected in the products.
How do i know what tariff to set in the menu?
Only your energy provider can supply these details. Please review your last bill or contact your provider.
I have four dashes (- - -) showing on the display. What does this mean?
Move the display closer to the transmitter and press the Link Button. If the dashes remain on the display this would indicate the transmitter and receiver are not communicating. Please contact efergy Customer Service to help locate the problem.
Backlight appears to work sometimes, and not other times. Is my display broken?
No. The backlight is on a timer to save battery life. The display should work at darker periods of the day, when any buttons are pressed. The LED backlight will be activated from 18:00Hrs to 6:00Hrs.
How do I reset the display (clear the data and start again)?
Only when is in the 'Energy Now' screen, push and hold for two seconds the buttons 'History' and Mode/Set until CLR appears on the screen. This will turn the display to his original setup (from factory) and should not affect neither time or date. Attention! You will lose all the information stored in the memory of the display.
